Google Suggest May Hinder Website Development

In search engine optimisation your goal is always going to be getting your website in the top search results for the consumers to find.  There are a number of techniques you can use to do this.  For example the right keywords, images, titles, and URL will help you get in the top listings.  Search engines have always been based on what the consumer is going to search for.  If you own a travel website you want to have keywords spaced throughout the site that most consumers search for.  If you have a niche product you will also have general and specific keywords that your target audience is most likely going to use.

However, things have been changing in the world of SEO again.  Google launched Google Suggest for consumers.  This programme is meant to help the consumer complete their search faster for the information they would normally be looking for.  For instance if the person searches for ice cream while in Google Suggest, the next time they go to search for ice cream Google search engine will fill in the blanks and the consumer will not have to type out the whole word.  Google Suggest has been updated to add even more for the consumers.

Let’s go back to the ice cream example.  In the search bar when Google finishes the thought for you, it is possible to see more suggestions like ice cream, history of ice cream, ice cream delivery or even a URL.  The idea is that Google will remember what you have searched for in the past as an internet user, thereby speeding up what results you want.

The Google Suggest has even begun to show ads for Google’s own products, and other advertisers are not far behind.  The one thing Google did remove was the number of results per suggestion it shows.

Now this means for website developers there is another challenge out there.  Your SEO has been based on the individual typing what they want and finding you.  Now Google can work off the user’s information and that could cut you out of the results.  The idea of the new programme is to get better results to the internet user.  Therefore if your site is less than high quality or it doesn’t have the right word you could be losing traffic.  Of course, the consumer does have to have the Google Suggest tool on in order for it to work.
