Indexing your site Where You Want It

There are two ways to get your site listed on Google.  You have the 3-pack or the 10-pack.  You obviously want to be in one of the two in order to get the best results.  So, pay attention as we have some information for you.  Google has the ability to show the same listings for a local search no matter where the search is being conducted when a location is given.  In other words, if a consumer is looking in Bath and someone else is looking in London for the same things and they specify “London” in the search the same results will appear for both consumers.

This is why the 10-pack results are so important.  Everyone is going to see the same results no matter where they are located.  Therefore you need to be in the top ten listing.  The only way a consumer will see something different when they search is if they forget to put in a location, as they will get instant results for where they live.

Now let’s look at how you can optimise your page to get into the 10-pack results.

  1. What pages do you want in the top ten and are they optimised for keyword?  Keep in mind that pages with more incoming links are going to be the best ranked for competitive keywords.
  2. Is your street address and local phone number on each page or just a few? How have you formatted the information?  You want to have these two things listed at the bottom of every page you want in the results; furthermore you need to have it formatted in text style.
  3. Have you claimed your Google Maps Listing?  If you have not, do so.  You need to claim your map so that you can list more information for the consumer, thus getting into the top results.
  4. How many reviews does your site have?  Every result in the 10-pack will have many reviews, and it is a key factor in getting listed.

By examining these four things on your site and changing the ones you have not done satisfactorily you can help increase your rankings on the local search.  You still have to perform other SEO tactics such as keyword optimisation, quality content, etc.  However, you have more options when it comes to local search because you can narrow things down a bit for optimal rankings.
